Israel and Hamas declare cease-fire.
After eight days of Israeli airstrikes and Hamas rocket fire, a temporary peace between the two bitterly divided sides has been reached.
The peace treaty, in part states:
"Israel shall stop all hostilities in the Gaza Strip land sea and air, including incursions and targeting of individuals. All Palestinian factions shall stop all hostilities from the Gaza Strip against Israel, including rocket attacks and all attacks along the border. Opening the crossings and facilitating the movement of people and transfer of goods and refraining from restricting residents' free movements and targeting residents in border areas."
163 Palestinians and 5 Israelis died in the conflict, just the latest casualties in the cold war between Israel and Hamas which heats up from time to time.
Rockets were fired up until the very last minute before the truce went into effect in fact a few rockets were fired after the cease-fire began at nine pm but they had no impact on the agreement which is still being maintained.
Israel hit targets in Gaza with more than 1,500 airstrikes and other attacks over the eight day conflict also over 1,500 rockets bombarded Israel. Israel dropped 1,000 times as much explosive on the Gaza Strip as landed on its soil, According to Defense Minister Ehud Barak.
"No country would tolerate rocket attacks against its cities and against its civilians. Israel cannot tolerate such attacks," said Netanyahu.
Hamas leader Khaled Mashaal said: "If Israel complies, we are compliant. If it does not comply, our hands are on the trigger."
